Shape | Pattern | Color | Yes!

While still on the Tour with Nour in Tunis, we just got to see so much goodness! Luckily the other woman in the group with me was also enamored by the same inspiring things.

Let's talk more about the frenetic energy of the souks at the medina. It's a strange juxtaposition of sort of dark tunnels and paths that are filled with chaotic treasures. They are really a feast for the eyes, once you look past the sad cats and kittens everywhere. I'll leave those details out and focus on the delights.

Pottery, ceramics, textiles, spices, metalwork, leather, weaving...you get the gist. So much to see and feel. After some energetic rug shopping (of course, we can ship it right to your house! ha!) we got to see this rooftop spot that had to be one of my favorite places of the day. Frenetic, but in the best way. The sunshine and the blue sky and the fractured tiles and the kilim rugs and the city view and the urban noise and the archways and me. I was there! So cool!

Had to play with a panoramic shot a bit to capture the mix of tiles: shape, color, pattern, story, history, culture. Delightful.

A few detail shots so I have a reference for color, pattern, & texture. Someday I'll actually sit down and make my own patterns, but until then I will keep cataloguing the goodness. I keep thinking how unique my perspective could be: there is no one else who has the same combination of experiences that I have to draw from. Literally. I should probably go draw something.

And you can't miss out on the man pouring coffee while wearing a fez. The black and white in that archway design is an Egyptian influence. The contrast of light and dark represent duality in life and death or earthly and divine. Bold is beautiful.

Speaking of bold, I need to go get some coffee on this fine Friday morning!
