There's No Place Like CDG: My "Extra" Adventure in Paris

Sometimes, our travel plans take surprising turns, as I discovered yesterday. Instead of just a brief layover, I found myself enjoying the comforts of the vibrant Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) in Paris. My original ticket was to Tunisia, but a delay transformed my day into an excuse to chill over croissants et cafe surrounded by strangers

A surprise stopover (or not really a surprise)
After one of the most non-restful flights in recent memory out of Dulles, knowing we'd be late arriving CDG since we took off over an hour and half late. I'm in vacay mode, on my way to visit friends who know that flexibility is everything, so I wasn't concerned. I had to give up a day of touring in Tunis, but got to trade it for napping in public with strangers.
One of the first things on my to-do list was to shop for a rolling bag for my computer and art crap. I was so thoughtful about packing my suitcase for this adventure that I didn't put enough time into culling the goods for my backpack. OMG. So heavy.
A little sketching time
I'm challenging myself to sketch everyday during this sojourn. I actually made up some special sketchbooks in a format that I learned from Trish McKinney at the Harrisburg Art & Soul retreat last year. It's really just a simple three piece signature sewn together, but the folds make it a little more interesting. And I made it so it just fits into my fancy new Vera Bradley crossbody (in Spinach green...my new favorite color...yes, I work in a boutique called Juli's Wearable Art where we sell this kind of goodness!)

Making the most of a coffee break
It's not the most exciting view of Paris, but with my body trying to adjust to the new time zone, it worked. I still got to think of color and pattern and texture and perspective. It was fun to hear chatter in a variety of languages while I ate eggs and got the Micron pen activated in a fresh white book!
All's well

I got to enjoy the two-hour flight from CDG to TUN in a middle seat, which, by the way, is much more comfortable when you have 30 less pounds on your body. The cucumber sandwich (the other option was tomato/artichoke) sated my airplane meal needs and I arrived ready to roll! Thanks to Melanie and Dave for welcoming me, seven hours late, but still ready for a toast on the roof!
