Our class field trip on Friday was to Aix-en-Provence, or just Aix. It was a whirlwind of a day with a crazy, winding bus ride at the beginning of the day (and on the way home) but was got to see lots of interesting things. Oh, and it was 100 degrees (F) again, so we also got to sweat a lot! ha!
My favorite part of the day was the stop at the end at the Vasarely Foundation. The Op Art, in huge scale was amazing, but more importantly there was air conditioning and chairs! haaaaa
Big color. So good. And the bathrooms were nice, too! haaaaaaa
It was wonderfully mesmerizing. Made me inspired to put some time into planning my next (and last!) portfolio. Vasarely spent time planning and perfecting each of these compositions before actually putting paint to paper or tile to ground.
My theme for the final project is "strength" since I've overcome resistance every time I've had to climb up this f*ing hill to my sweet little village abode. The downhill is easier, as long as I don't have on slippery shoes. I'm thinking there will be a rhinoceros beetle, baguettes and a sweaty bra included, at least. haaaaaa.
I should note that we also got to see Cezanne's studio. Alas, we had to walk nearly three miles, uphill, so I was not in any frame of mind to appreciate it. I felt like I ran a 5K when I was done--tired yet satisfied with my effort but also disappointed that we didn't get to see anything in the wonderful downtown of Aix since we were in such a rush.
For today, I'll be working inside reminding myself that life is, indeed, cool.
